Gary Johnson Candidate Profile [Opinion]

Gary Johnson Candidate Profile [Opinion]

I see this election and recent elections as the American people asking themselves this simple question: Of these two candidates which one will do the least damage? It sad that this is what we have become accustomed to and accepting of. We should not accept this. Thomas Jefferson claimed the brilliance of our political structure is the capability of having a bloodless revolution every four years. This is what has allowed us to create the most inventive and successful experiment on democracy to date. Now, we have a 2 party duopoly that I would argue is, in fact, a monopoly. Yes, the Republicans and Democrats claim to differ on a variety of minor issues (both socially and economically) but lets make no bones about it, they are one in the same. They are in bed together. They control the election process and filter out all alternative options. They both are guilty of being pawns of corporate CEO’s and acting on their behalf- you need look no further than Donald Trump who incessantly brags about owning politicians on both sides including the Bush and Clinton families. The Republicans and Democrats have a mutual political and economic stranglehold on the American people. They, in their very nature, are for bigger government. Both are under the impression that the government can run your life better than you can; that industries and the American people are flawed but somehow being elected to office makes them infallible.

Gary Johnson is the Libertarian candidate and the alternative on the ballot in all 50 states.

As libertarians, we base all conclusions upon 2 universal premises: 1)Self-ownership. You own your body, time, fruits of labor, etc. 2)Initiating force is ALWAYS wrong. There are a number of important implications of this. For example, the income tax is in violation of both principles because it is based upon stealing the fruits of someone else’s labor AND the initiation of force. With a gun to your head it says, “give me 35% of your earnings or I will put you in a cage.” SLAVERY.

We aim to end the illegal Federal Reserve System, which devalues the money of the poor to fund senseless wars and Wall-Street bailouts. THEFT.

We aim to end out of control government spending (both welfare and warfare) which causes inflation, disproportionately hurting the poor. UNSEEN REGRESSIVE TAX.

We aim to get the government out of the marriage business altogether. A license implies asking for permission. Freedom of interaction is a God-given right, not a privilege from government. Why do the Democrats claim to be for gay rights but not polygamist rights? HYPOCRISY.

We aim to end the failed, racist drug wars which benefit only the police and are used to fund terrorism and gangs. The drug war is an infringement upon self-ownership. Why do the self-righteous Republicans claim the drug war but not a ban on equally unhealthy fast food? INCONSISTENT HYPOCRITES.

We aim to restore civil liberties. We will end section 215 of the National Defense Authorization Act, which allows indefinite detention without representation. We will end the unpatriotic “Patriot Act” and other government spying programs. CIVIL LIBERTIES.

Gary Johnson will put gun rights and gay rights in the same sentence, he will put cutting offensive (not defensive) military spending in the same sentence as Medicare reform, he will bring the troops home from countries we have no business being in. SANE.

I encourage you to entertain this notion.  I encourage you entertain the idea that no vote for liberty is a waste. No vote for freedom is a waste. No vote for the constitution is a waste. I say it is a waste to vote for someone you don’t believe in. I say it is a waste to vote for the lesser of two evils. I say it is a waste to vote to have your freedoms continually eroded.

As Ben Franklin famously said, ‘Join or Die.’ A continuation of these failed policies will kill our once great nation. Whether a donkey or an elephant, I see only the ass. If you decide you don't like freedom, you don't like peace, you don't like prosperity, then go-ahead vote tyranny back into office. Be libertarian with me for one election. Vote.
